The drivers

Replicating the drivers was a priority of this mod, instead of reusing the existing skin I decided it would be better to convert to have the driver model of FVA in Assetto Corsa.

The driver in FVA is kind of like in rfactor. The head and hands are the only moving parts, the rest is just a mesh half done in order to look like the driver is inside. In reality this is how a driver looks like

The first experiment was to try having the helmet skin in Assetto Corsa, the mapping of the helmet skin was very similar to Assetto Corsa 2016 helmet mapping. And the helmet model was similar (although the one in Assetto Corsa seems a little low poly compared to FVA one).

At first we only have used the top part of the FVA helmet skin in the Assetto Corsa 2010 skin since the main Helmet livery had a problem with scaling if we tried to make it fit the Assetto Corsa mapping , so we went for an hybrid solution.

But with the 2011 helmet being flat I decided instead to convert the FVA helmet, the mapping was the same for the 2010 and 2011 helmet (With the 2011 helmet being the 2010 without the top part so it was basically the same object).

While I was a beginner in modding I encountered several issues, but in the end I managed to convert the whole FVA head (Helmet + Driver face)

In the end the result was worth the effort

We also added the Marlboro strip to the original FVA helmet like it was supposed to be originally (the Alonso helmet mesh picture in The drivers page)

I still have a problem with the seams like you can see (the circular line that seems to cut the helmet) Which is a problem with the normal map of the Helmet, the fix would be to create a completely flat normal map for it, but that's for another update.

The gloves were also an essential part of it, trying to replicate the FVA gloves style in order to bring that FVA feeling closer. The gloves were designed to match the FVA layout with the livery mirrored (Big red Strip toward the interior of the hand) instead of how it actually looks in reality.

Unfortunately Assetto Corsa hand model is stretched in game so it looks kind of weird in game.

So we compromised a little by resizing the shell logo in order to avoid it being too much distorted
